Research Announcements
The NYSGE Research Committee, chaired by Peter Stevens, MD, will provide updates regarding ongoing NYSGE research programs, information about available NYSGE grants and awards, and review research project proposals submitted by the membership for possible future participation and/or sponsorship by the Society.
Currently, the NYSGE offers the following awards/grants:
1. David B. Falkenstein Memorial Award for Endoscopic Research (Fellows Only)
Dr. Falkenstein was a gastroenterologist and endoscopist who practiced for many years at the Manhattan VA Medical Center. He was a beloved former NYSGE President and greatly contributed to the endoscopic training and education of fellow trainees and other members of the Society. This annual award is presented to the fellow trainee with the top research abstract submitted for presentation at a national GI meeting. The award is currently $250, and is administered by the NYSGE Executive Council. The award winner is announced at the next NYSGE Annual Dinner in January.
2. Florence Lefcourt Award for GI Endoscopic Research and Public Education
Ms. Florence Lefcourt is the first and current NYSGE Executive Director. This annual award will support collaborative endoscopic research and educational outreach in the New York region. NYSGE and ASGE members in clinical practice or faculty at an NYSGE-affiliated institutions are eligible to apply for this award. The award is currently $10,000, and is administered by the ASGE Foundation. Please visit the ASGE website to apply.
