Learning Objectives

  • Identify appropriate methods to detect and treat common disorders of the small bowel, colon and pancreas, as well as endobariatric therapy for obesity, and review the effectiveness of these approaches
     
  • Discuss the spectrum of commonly seen disorders of the esophagus and stomach, such as gastroesophageal reflux disease, Barrett’s esophagus, motility disorders and gastric intestinal metaplasia, and outline related treatment options and their effectiveness
     
  • Discuss the management of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and evaluate the efficacy and safety of current treatments
     
  • Evaluate advances in the methods of assessing disease status in patients with inflammatory bowel disease and discuss the application of these techniques to patient treatment
     
  • Examine the diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities as well as complications of current and emerging advanced endoscopic techniques to diagnose and treat disorders of the hepatobiliary tract, pancreas, and luminal gastrointestinal tract and to detect and manage obscure upper and lower GI bleeding
     
  • Discuss the gastrointestinal manifestations of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID 19) and examine the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on endoscopy practice

Choose any one of these four concurrent programs:
  • Advances in Esophageal Motility
  • Managing the Difficult Polyp
  • Improving Adenoma Detection Rates
  • Workup of Refractory GERD
These "bonus" sessions will explore approaches to common GI problems through demonstration and discussion of back-to-basics or advanced endoscopic techniques. Four 75 minute non-CME programs will be offered concurrently on Thursday after the main programming concludes. Programs are led by expert NYSGE faculty who will present guidelines and industry solutions for improving clinical care for patients with related disorders. There is no registration fee to attend. Important Note for Nurses

The Doris C. Barnier Nurses and Associates Course includes a wide variety of important nursing-specific topics. Nurses may also create custom learning experiences by choosing llectures and live endoscopy cases from the main course in addition to nursing specific content.

Please Note: Nursing-specific content is available only to In Person registrants. Those choosing the Streaming option may earn a similar number of contact hours by viewing lectures from the main course and live endoscopy cases.

Learning Outcomes for Nurse Participants

After this program, participants will be able to review the pathophysiology of GI diseases, evaluate current advances in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, and identify evidence- based best practices for novel medical, endoscopic, surgical and nursing approaches to the management of digestive diseases.

Nursing Accreditation Statement

This activity has been submitted to Montana Nurses Association for approval to award contact hours. Montana Nurses Association is accredited with distinction as an approver of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. 14.0 contact hours have been requested.
