Attending Physicians and Fellows in Gastroenterology

This course will address colon resection and POEM by examining two of the most heated controversies in advanced endoscopy: EMR vs. ESD for the removal of large flat colon polyps, and Heller myotomy vs. POEM for the treatment of achalasia. This program is in memory of Peter D. Stevens, an outstanding innovator and teacher of advanced endoscopy procedures.

  • Discuss new trends and techniques in advanced resection of large flat colon polyps including advanced EMR and ESD and compare the relative advantages and disadvantages of EMR and ESD in this setting
  • Recognize the role of Heller myotomy and POEM in the treatment of achalasia and how to evaluate and interpret comparative data on outcomes including efficacy, adverse events and prevalence of GERD
