COURSE DESCRIPTION 
Considerations for managing difficult colonoscopies will be presented including use of water, scope guide, overtube, positioning, abdominal pressure, stiffeners, and endoscope selection. Polypectomy options such as EMR or ESD, snare type and selection, injection agents, tattooing, and argon plasma coagulation vs. soft coagulation vs. avulsion will also be discussed. Complications of colonoscopy including perforations and uncontrollable bleeding, oozing and spurting and the use of clips and suturing devices to aid in control of bleeding or repair of the GI lumen and wall will be examined.   

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
  • Recognize how difficult cases of colonic intubation are managed and the incidence of failure to complete colonoscopy in such cases
  • Identify techniques for managing large and complex polyps and when to apply them
  • Recognize different methods for managing complications of colonoscopy including bleeding and perforations and when to apply them
